Parking tips

1 Reserve on time

Often you will see that the best parking and, especially, the cheapest is booked quickly, leaving very little or no spaces left. Which could mean that you end up paying more for parking, or not reserving a space at the ideal location. Additionally, some car parks even only accept pre-booking due to their low costs, as this allows them to ensure there are enough spaces. Therefore, the first parking tip is to definitely book parking in advance. We recommend making reservations as soon as you know your travel dates, whether this is for the airport or the city. For airport parking we do advise booking a space no later than 14 days before your departure flight. This will let you get the most out of your parking, as you will have greater access to all the options and pre-booking can even secure you a lower price!

2 Compare the experiences of others

Although booking online offers convenience and ease, it does mean that you reserve a space without physically seeing the car park. As you will want the best out of your parking this can be a little worrying or stressful. However, ParkingCheap offers real and honest reviews for every parking provider. Meaning you can read the opinions of past customers. Giving you an overall insight into the service the parking is offering. Which is why we highly recommend reading these reviews, as it allows you to make the most informed decision when booking.

3 Leave on time

Many people find travelling stressful, but one way in which this stress can be reduced is through leaving with plenty of time. Therefore, our next tip is to highlight how key it is to leave on time for your destination; whether this is the airport or somewhere in the city. As it allows for you to have all the needed time to get your bearings sorted. For airport parking, this means having enough time to get to the parking, then to the terminal, go through the procedure of the airport, and then fly. Therefore, it is so important to double-check how long it takes for you to get to the parking provider. And for airport parking, we recommend checking how long it takes to get from the car park to the airport. As this leaves no room for error or surprises. Planning this in advance means you will not have to rush and can travel stress-free and easily.

4 Find the provider location easily

There are many parking providers in both the city and around the airports, which can make it hard to find the car park you booked with. This, therefore, can cause for time delays and stress. Which is why we advise checking the exact address a few days prior to when you are supposed to park. To travel even more carefree and on-time we even recommend putting the address into your GPS the night before. This will make sure that you get to the desired location easily and quickly; with no delays.

You can also print out your booking confirmation for extra security, as it contains all the needed information about the provider. Including details on the location.

5 Record your mileage

When arriving at the destination, a lot of car parks will take a picture or write down your mileage (mainly applies to airport parking). This is done for the peace of your own mind, as you can guarantee your car is returned exactly the way you dropped it off. If you arrive and the provider does not do this, then we highly suggest that you do. As this protects you and ensures that you know the specific state of your car, before and after parking. Of course, it is very unlikely that anything will happen to your car whilst you are away from it, but it is still important to take the necessary protection steps.

Please note that if the car park records your mileage, it is still welcomed that you do it yourself.

6 Organising your return

Whether you are returning from a day out in the city, or a week's travel abroad it is important to do some planning and checks for your return. To ensure that everything goes smoothly and easily. One check to keep in mind involves your keys. Make sure that if you did not hand your keys in with the provider, that you still have them and that they are in an accessible place. For those using airport parking, make sure that when you land you turn your phone back on or turn off aeroplane mode. So that you can contact the provider and arrange for a pickup. A final check to do is on your fuel or charge (for electric cars), so that you can get to your next destination safely and peacefully.

7 Don’t leave valuable properties in sight

Before leaving your car at the provider it is important to check that there are no valuables left behind. If you choose to leave belongings in your car then make sure they are completely out of sight. This helps to further ensure your car's safety as it won't become a target by thieves - although incredibly unlikely.
